“Half a century after the European Patent Convention was signed, the paper archives of the European Patent Office have been completely digitized. The Office decided to issue an open call to artists: Who had the best idea for an artwork made from the old paper files? The jury chose Nuyten, in whose oeuvre data, recycling and innovation play a central role. Together with bio-circular company Omlab and Recell®, she developed a way to create 3D printed sculptures using the EPO’s paper files as raw material. The shapes are based on the patterns of electric currents that are activated when you give a computer the command ‘upload’.” EPO
