Rehearsing the Future
text in virtual divide, Oculus Rift, flat screen, vinyl floor
In this work, Nuyten examined to what extent Virtual Reality can change our relation to texts. When you read a book, you are handling a two-dimensional object. But can you also be inside a text? Visitors who put on this VR headset, find themselves in a virtual reality with a minimalistic character: a black space in which green sentences light up one by one around the viewer. The texts have a slightly absurdist character and form a scenario for the future, so the viewer can already practise living in this future.
