Measured Through a Screen a Sea is 4CM
120×80 cm, photo print on recycled acrylic glass and Alu-Dibond, handmade ceramics,
The North Sea, as seen on Google Maps, measures exactly 4 centimetres. Due to the omnipresence of navigation apps, the perception of space and distance is strongly influenced by digital maps. Nuyten recreated the sea in ceramics, making it fit exactly in the palm of her hand. This shape refers to the souvenirs that one finds in coastal resorts, but also to the threat of the rising sea level. The work is a sequel to Measured Through a Window a Building is 3 mm. Ten years later, the artist does not measure the world through a windowpane but through a computer screen.
