Leap Second
clock hands, pillar, 200 × 40 × 40 cm (pillar) 8 × 6 cm (clock hands)
The mechanism of a clock, stripped of its dial, has been installed on the floor, against a pillar built for that purpose. The seconds hand keeps hitting against the pillar, and the hands of the clock can’t move any further as a result. This installation is an attempt to reflect on the absurdity of the phenomenon of time. For instance, once every few years, the decision is made to add a leap second to Universal Time, when the atom clocks threaten to run out of sync with solar time.
